Abstract

In the study of water (and other fluids), statistical physicists would like to sample from "typical" configurations of water molecules. This involves generating random configurations related to the Boltzmann weights or interparticle potential energy. We give a brief overview of the hard disk and Leonard-Jones models for interparticle interaction, discuss Markov chain methods for sampling configurations, and give a few low density results on the mixing time of these Markov chains.
