I'll present a fully abstract semantics for a ML-like functional language including references and exceptions with locally bound names, and first-class polymorphism, based on a labelled transition system with simple atomic labels. I'll discuss connections with other semantics such as games models --- why these are very close for some fragments, whereas other features can be precisely represented with labelled transitions much more easily than with games.
