LFCS Theory Seminar
Department of Mathematics and Statistics,
University of Edinburgh
4pm Tuesday 30 November 1999
Room 2511, JCMB, King's Buildings
Over the last 10 years, modeltheorists and analytic geometers have proved numerous finiteness theorems about the topology and geometry of sets in Euclidean space defined by various classical functions (exponentials, gamma function, zeta function). These results have implications for VC dimension, and thus for PAC learning. I will survey the state of the art, drawing attention to the sparsity of precise quantitative results.
