Postgraduate Assistant: Software

Robert Atkey holds this position for 2004/2005. There is some background information about the job.

To install and maintain software packages supporting LFCS research.

No more than six hours per week, paid at University demonstrator rates. Responsible to Paul Anderson. Appointment reviewed annually.

For software nominated by LFCS staff, to carry out the following.
- Prepare an RPM wrapper and accompanying scripts.
- Place the resulting package in the local distribution for LFCS machines.
- Keep the package up to date with new releases of the software.
- Handle problems that arise with the package: either directly in the RPM wrapper itself, or by reporting faults in the underlying software back to its original distributor.
- Export the package to global RPM archives, in particular the Red Hat repository of contributed software.
Manage LFCS software web pages, listing packages available locally and describing how to request additional packages or report problems.
